    Taro rice cake  Jiasian Township is located in the small village in the mountain region of Kaohsiung County; it is the starting point for the Southern Cross Island Highway, and was a vital junction for traffic between Kaohsiung County and Taidong County during the early days. The filling and aromatic taros, in addition with the various self cultivated products such as bamboo shoots, plums, ginger…etc. were the best supply of foods during the time where there was lack of materials and inconvenient traffic. Later on, there were more and more tourists visiting, thus the stores gradually developed various processed foods from the quality taros and bamboo shoots etc., and they are perfect as gifts; for instance, the renowned taro ice, taro cake, taro shreds, taro rice cake, dried taro bamboo shoot, sour bamboo shoot, crispy bamboo shoot plum vinegar, plum juice and plums etc..

    plum  The plum fields everywhere have different sentiments throughout the four seasons in a year; during the cold winter, the blossoming plum flowers appear to be just like snow when viewed from afar; when spring arrives, the trees are fully packed with plum fruits, and this would be the busiest period for the farmers, as they need to pick and smash the plum, and process them into various plum products, including crispy plum, chewy plum, plum vinegar, plum essence and plum juice etc. Plums are the best alkaline food which will certainly enhance one’s health if ate frequently.

      The number of plum produced in Jiasian region is the top of Taiwan, with approximately the two weeks before the annual Tomb-sweeping day being the mass productive season; since plum has a high degree of sourness and a low degree of sweetness, they are not edible like other fruits without being processed, thus they are often processed as crispy plum, candied, perilla plums, plum vinegar and plum alcohol etc., which makes them the perfect health maintenance food.

      With the extensive promotion by the agricultural association this year, the quantity and quality of production has been enhanced quite a lot; Jiasian Agricultural Association not only coached the farmers regarding the cultivation, but also provided a series of lessons on teaching tourists to make various plum products on their own; you can also become a professional of plum with the easy steps.
